"Up I Go" wins 2nd place...

in the pastel category at the Easter Seals Art Celebration! I was so excited to see that my painting had won. 9 x 12 pastel on suede board. Overall framed 11 x 14.
We had 3 different receptions going on downtown last night. All three were wonderful. Lots of folks out enjoying the lovely evening. I helped at the Yeiser Art Center's reception most of the evening and it was packed. Some of my sweet friends made it out to support me and I really appreciated it very much. Thank you.

Downtown after dinner

It was a great Saturday night at the Downtown After Dinner program. Lots of people out. The weather could not have been nicer. Cool and a little breeze. Jeff Spicer and I painted at the gazebo until around 9:30 pm. We had 3 young adults playing violins in the gazebo while we painted. It was very nice.

I really need to get busy this week. I have two shows to put my work in. One is the Easter Seals juried show...thinking about putting in "I Be Drivin'" and "Up I Go". Pictures below.

The Yeiser Art Center is having a "Members Only" show and I am planning on putting one of my Bird of Paradises in that show. Picture is below.

So I am off to work on another portrait piece today.

Lily finished...

Color is a little off but this one is done. A real keepsake because it is probably the longest she has stayed still!

Lily a Work in Progress

Title definitely fits the painting and the child! = )
Getting Lily to stop moving was quite a feat. The idea of her taking my picture as I took her picture worked! Ha...got one over on you sweet child.

Tweeked a bit more...

There is more red/orange in the field. Doesn't show up in this photo.
This will be a gift for a friend when framed.

2 New Paintings and Paula Ford Workshop

Here are the latest paintings I have finished. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed painting them. Kids are such wonderful subjects to paint.

Saturday Aug 1st I was fortunate to be part of a workshop by Paula Ford. Paula is a wonderful landscape artist. The class was full of information for both the beginner and advanced pastel artist. As soon as I put the finishing touches to my landscape I will post it.

2 More Pieces Finished

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. It's been hot and humid here. This morning I got out and watered my roses and other flowering plants. Very nice out but then it is only 9 a.m.

I finished the last of the Bird of Paradise pieces. I am not real sure about these two. Will look at them for a while and see if they need some changes. Critique and Comments welcome!

What a week! June 27, 2009

Here is the photo of my finished Bird of Paradise. I did manage to get it finished. Two more left. They will be smaller, 9x12's. I also finished a commission piece and will be getting ready to do another soon.

It has been a very busy week...trying to get things taken care of around here because I had a 3 day Watercolor Workshop w/Joseph Fettingis here in Paducah. Joe is a great teacher. This is the second year I have taken his class. I am no watercolor artist by any means but I believe that you can always learn from other artist no matter what medium they work in. Check out Joe's site at http://www.jfettingis.com/. His work is amazing.

Off to rest...

We Need Sponsors...

Our city has recently passed an ordinance allowing area artist to produce, display and sell their work in the downtown area on the street around our gazebo area. Every Saturday night we are downtown painting or making pottery items. With the ordinace we will be able to be on the streets any day of the week.

We are in need of sponsors for the two style of carts. Each sponsor will have an engrave plaque placed on the cart with their name and/or business. The cost of the carts are $1500 for the painting, drawing carts and $2500 for pottery/ceramics carts. Carts can be sponosored by one or more individuals or businesses.

Paducah is a growing art community and we are exciting about this new ordinance being passed. If you are interested or know of some one who would be please contact us at:

The picture is an idea of what the carts are to look like.

Three Extra Ordinary Women

Today my dear hubby said I needed to post some of my other work. He is my best admirer and critic!

Last year I worked on three portrait paintings from the Heifer International Charitable Organization's magazine, "World Ark". I was fortunate to get the permission of the photographer, Geoff Bugbee, to copy and paint these lovely ladies. Geoff is a humanitarian photojournalist specializing in global health issues. Geoff's work is awesome. Please check out his site at http://www.geoffbugbee.com/.
My goal is to get a series of several ladies done and have a show to help support Heifer's humanitarian causes. Heifer's site is http://www.heifer.org/.
In another post I will give you a little history of these wonderful women.

Photo from around downtown and home.

These windows remind of little bird houses. They are part of some historical building fronts downtown.

Sign from local downtown bakery...best bread and bagels around.

This is part of the old movie theatre downtown. I will add more pictures later so you can see more of it. It is sad to see it closed and left to deteriorate.

Fence post from my yard.

All these pictures were part of my photography class portfolio last semester.
